NACHTMEER

Nachtmeer invites the listener into a world shaped by desert landscapes, nocturnal wildlife, and the fleeting atmosphere of dusk. Conceived as a sonic response to Cornelia Pierce’s visual work, it unfolds as both meditation and journey, using sound to reflect the quiet narrative of the images.

From the opening moments, a melancholic sense of place begins to emerge, evoking the last traces of light across the desert floor as day gives way to night. Sparse textures, distant movements, and slowly shifting layers suggest moonlit shrubs, rocky outcrops, open skies, and the first signs of nocturnal life beginning to stir.

The production is lush but restrained, allowing each sound to breathe. Its atmosphere feels both intimate and expansive, with each track unfolding like a small vignette from the book’s visual world. Rather than illustrating the images directly, the music extends their mood, drawing attention to silence, space, and the fragile beauty of the natural environment.

Nachtmeer is a quiet invitation to pause, listen, and enter a landscape where sound, image, and memory begin to overlap. As the final notes fade, it leaves behind a sense of stillness, a reminder of the subtle beauty that can be found in even the most desolate places.
